SUMMARY:Natalie McCool - MCR
DESCRIPTION:Natalie McCool plus guests Abbie Ozard \nWhat if all the male humans suddenly disappeared? Hold that thought; what if all the male humans never even existed in the first place? \n‘Woman’s World’\, Natalie McCool’s one-off single release for International Women’s Day 2019\, is a neo-psych sci-fi wooze through a world that men no longer populate or possibly never did. A world where girls and women are free from the gender shackles that discourage them at all ages from scientific\, mathematic thought – where they are free to ascend to anything; world power\, moon landings\, even monotheistic god status – a world in which they don’t have to shatter the glass ceiling\, because there isn’t one. \nWoman’s World will be available on all digital services on 15th March through Modern Sky UK / Warner ADA \nNatalie McCool is a singer\, songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist and a formidable front woman. She has amassed an army of fans and plenty of critical acclaim with her truly innovative and beautiful take on pop music. Her debut album ‘The Great Unknown’ was supported by BBC Radio 1 amongst a swell of UK press and was accompanied by two headline UK tours\, a number of festival appearances (UK and Europe) and shows in South Korea\, Japan\, Russia and Australia. \nNatalie recently completed work on her follow up. A collection of songs that capture and crystallise her memories from both childhood and adulthood\, weaving deeply intimate stories that channel life’s most vital thoughts and feelings like love\, jealousy and loss into a skewed mixture of lilting yet gloriously catchy pop songs. Her new album is a new beginning\, having brought on board a label (Modern Sky UK) for the first time in her career\, it sets an ambitious tone for this exciting artist. \nBefore we see Natalie emerge with this new body of work\, stand-alone single ‘Woman’s World’ is released especially for International Women’s Day 2019.

SUMMARY:Strange Cages - LPL
DESCRIPTION:Strange Cages plus guests \nToday Brighton’s Strange Cages share news of their long-awaited debut album Pop Therapy\, which will be released in collaboration with esteemed promoters and psych-rock connoisseurs Acid Box on the 13th of September. \nFormed in 2014\, the unruly foursome’s debut single ‘Pony’ was picked up early by DIY champions Strong Island Recordings\, setting the band on an upwards trajectory that would see them playing alongside some of today’s noisy heavyweights from IDLES and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard to Yak and Night Beats. With previous Radio 1 support from Huw Stephens and an extensive touring background (including numerous European ventures) the lead track from Pop Therapy is thrilling mission statement of things to come. \nOpening with a blistering guitar riff\, chaotic drums and a taunting bass line\, ‘Dance Like An Alpha Male’ is a punchy amalgamation of wiry post-punk and hypnotic garage-rock. Dropping down the intensity for the verse\, front man Charlie McConnochie’s unhinged vocals echo a disgruntled Lias Saoudi\, of Fat White Family\, before building right back up into an abrasive explosion of guitar work. With shamanic chants leading the track through an unexpectedly eerie middle 8\, ‘Dance Like An Alpha Male’ will take you places that you didn’t know you needed to go. \nMcConnochie explains: “Sometimes it’s good to take a look at your own actions over the last 24 hours to decide whether they’re really coming from you or if they are an imitation of something else. Once you’ve done that\, you can have a little freak out and then go back and start learning how to be more of a genuine human being. \n‘Brighton’s Strange Cages are one of the country’s most vivid live acts\, a group whose psychotic take on rock ‘n’ roll turns the narrow streets of Brighton into desert hallucinogenics.’ – CLASH

SUMMARY:Ten Tonnes - LPL
DESCRIPTION:Ten Tonnes plus guests \n“A young British artist crafting impossibly infectious alt-pop songs like it’s no big deal.” – BBC Introducing \n  \n“’G.I.V.E.’ feels like a level up for the promising prodigy.” – Dork \n  \n“Captures that magical moment when a tyro musician is poised to go off like a rocket.” – Sunday Times Culture \n  \n“An extremely exciting prospect.” – DIY \n  \n“Right now I’m going to play you some Ten Tonnes\, this is a bop\, he knows how to write a tune\, he’s George Ezra’s little brother\, it’s probably in the blood.” – Annie Mac \n  \n“This is my favourite new song of the moment… I think it’s amazing\, I love it.” – Chris Evans \n  \n“Really excellent… very much one to listen out for and watch in 2019.” – Lauren Laverne \n  \n“That’s so good! It’s Ten Tonnes\, he played in session for me on the previous incarnation of this show – and was really impressive.” – Jo Whiley \n  \n“Ten Tonnes seems destined to play bigger stages before too long.” – Evening Standard \n  \n“You can’t listen to his music without having a big grin on your face.” – Vogue \n  \n“Destined to become a pop heavyweight in 2019.” – Daily Star \n  \n“Expect big things.” – The Sun \n  \n“A brilliantly talented young man.” – Gordon Smart\, Radio X \n  \nFor someone who was\, by his own admission\, “extremely shy” as a young child\, Ethan Barnett\, aka TEN TONNES\, cuts a strikingly confident figure. The 22-year-old musician from Hertford possesses a breezy\, seemingly effortless ability to fashion snap-crackle lyrics and earworm melodies. \n  \nIt’s a trait that’s very much in evidence throughout his self-titled debut album\, which is set to be released on May 3rd via Warner Bros. Records. \n  \nIts single ‘Better Than Me’ made a big impression at radio. Annie Mac was on board for the track’s first play\, while further Radio 1 backing included a Maida Vale session for Jack Saunders plus support from Dev and Alice. Subsequent airplay included the daytime list at Radio X and Chris Hawkins at 6 Music. \n  \nThat momentum continued unabated into 2019 with further airplay from Annie Mac\, adding to a total of over 120 plays at Radio 1 for TEN TONNES’ singles to date. ‘Better Than Me’ was also added to the A list at Radio 2 and earned support from Lauren Laverne at 6 Music. The single was also played on Chris Evans’ first show for Virgin Radio\, which TEN TONNES soon followed by landing daytime support and performing a session for the DJ. \n  \nAnd to cap it all\, TEN TONNES was featured in YouTube’s Ones To Watch 2019 playlist as well as Radio X’s Great X-Pectations list of the best new music\, artists and bands for 2019. \n  \nLast year saw TEN TONNES complete a busy year of touring which he concluded by hitting the UK and Europe as guest to his brother George Ezra. He also played packed arenas with Stereophonics\, instigated chaotic scenes with Rat Boy and won over crowds when touring with Tom Grennan. Having sold-out his first headline tour of 2019\, he returns to the road for a run of larger dates in May: \n  \nHis summer festival schedule is also taking shape with Reading\, Leeds\, Glasgow Summer Sessions\, Truck\, Hit The North\, Y Not and Kendal Calling already confirmed. \n  \nThat’s where Ethan’s at now. The question is\, how did he get here? \n  \nHis parents\, both teachers\, encouraged their children to be creative and to express themselves. Ethan’s dad “had a couple of guitars around the house\, and there was always music on\, things like Paul Simon and Van Morrison.” He started out playing drums at the age of nine before switching to guitar five years later. \n  \nThat passion continued\, leading Ethan to study music production at York University. He quickly discovered it wasn’t for him. “For me\, when it comes to music\, I want to do it\, not learn about the theory. I wanted to get out there and go for it. Besides\, so much of that course was about the science of it\, and I’m absolutely shit at science. I mean\, really bad. And working out what a sound is\, I’m not bothered about that. I just want to make the sound.” \n  \nThat year in York involved\, Ethan says\, a lot of late nights and very little work. “I ended up getting zero marks\, because I didn’t hand any work in. My parents were very good about it\, all things considered.” \n  \nTEN TONNES instead focused his attention on his own songwriting. He first gained attention in 2016 with an independently released three-track debut EP\, before releasing the follow-up ‘Born To Lose’ under a new deal with Warner Bros. Records in 2017. A succession of singles followed\, from ‘Cracks Between’ to ‘Better Than Me’\, each of which delivered new admirers who had become enamoured with his talents. \n  \nEthan isn’t bothered about what people call his music – besides\, it’s out of his hands now\, he says. Mention genres such as garage-rock and folk-pop and he smiles enigmatically; adjectives like propulsive\, raucous and tender produce a similar response. It’s all just music\, isn’t it\, he eventually suggests. “Everyone goes on about things being cool or not cool\, but I can’t see the point of that. What does it mean\, anyway?” \n  \nNow TEN TONNES is set to release his eagerly anticipated debut album\, which combines a host of new material with some of the fan favourites which have accompanied his story so far. \n  \nOpening with a tenacious new take on his debut track ‘Lucy’\, the album finds TEN TONNES exploring “the highs\, the lows and the in-betweens of love and relationships” throughout a contemporary collection of sharp-witted rock ‘n’ roll anthems. \n  \nWhile TEN TONNES plays with self-deprecating and unlucky-in-love experiences on the likes of ‘Better Than Me’ and ‘Born To Lose’\, the album also explores the relatable emotions of a young man who’s eager to experience life outside of his hometown. \n  \n‘Nights In\, Nights Out’ (one of two songs co-written with former Kaiser Chief Nick Hodgson) tackles “seeing the same old faces around town and needing to break the cycle”\, but ‘Missing You’ addresses bittersweet feelings of leaving. The two songs share contradictory but parallel emotions – wanting to escape but realising then what you’re missing once you’re gone. \n  \nThose ideas are further delved into with the reflective ‘Too Late’. “It’s about being away from a relationship on the other side of the world\,” he explains. “I need to make the most of this incredible opportunity I’ve been afforded\, but part of me wants to be back home in the pub chatting shit with my friends.” \n  \nTEN TONNES recorded the album with producers Hugo White (previously of The Maccabees) and Dan Grech (Wolf Alice\, The Killers\, Liam Gallagher). The pair maximised his potential with two different approaches which yielded a cohesive\, free-flowing set of songs with the driving energy of TEN TONNES’ live shows. White encouraged him to capture one-take live performances with backing from Maccabees’ duo Rupert Shepherd (bass) and Sam Doyle (drums). Meanwhile\, Grech focused on making each part TEN TONNES recorded (vocals\, guitar\, bass\, keys) as tight as he possibly could. \n  \nThe album also features co-writes with Crispin Hunt (Florence + The Machine\, Jake Bugg\, Lana Del Rey) and Luke Potashnick (Charlie Puth\, James Blunt). \n  \n“It’s amazing that I get to work with these people and get to call them friends and colleagues\,” concludes TEN TONNES. “My only ambition was to have an album out\, so it feels quite strange that it’s happening. I’m super fucking happy about it\, and I can’t wait to hold it in my hands.” \n

SUMMARY:Zuzu - MCR
DESCRIPTION:Zuzu plus guests The Covasettes + Munkey Junkey \nLike so many gifted musical minds\, adolescent isolation and a degree of loneliness are to thank for the guitar-wielding subterranean alien queen\, otherwise known as Zuzu. Growing up in post-industrial Liverpool\, Zuzu struggled to make friends and quickly turned to music; honing her craft whilst writing a prolific number of songs. Those same songs developed into indie-pop anthems “What You Want” and “Get Off”\, described as “euphoric typhoon of ooh-ed harmonies\, vivid riffs\, and heart-bursting lyrics” by The Line Of Best Fit and “Absolutely massive” by Clash Magazine. \nA penchant for pop music (specifically Cardi B) combined with deep rooted love for acts like The Beatles\, The Libertines and Bright Eyes lends itself to Zuzu’s introspective ruminations on subjects ranging from love to outer-space; all packaged in her very own brand of transient fuzz. Zuzu’s upcoming debut EP\, rather fittingly called “Made On Earth By Humans”\, is a culmination of her journey thus far\, filled to the brim with quick-witted lyricisms and hook-laden choruses that stands up next to contemporaries Courtney Barnett and Warpaint. \nZuzu is undeniably at the forefront of Liverpool’s most significant cultural revival since the Fab Four first trod the boards at The Cavern Club back in 1961. Her boundary pushing mentality feeds into the psyche of the city which has long been imbued with a spirit of fierce independence\, unwavering loyalty and creative genius. All the same magic that defined the likes of The La’s\, Echo & The Bunnymen\, The Zutons\, The Coral and Cast are visible in Zuzu’s music\, which\, to some degree\, are indebted to her surroundings; a city of jesters\, jongleurs\, troubadours\, artists\, poets and visionaries. \nLike her heroes from such cartoon network classics as The Amazing World Of Gumball and Adventure time\, Zuzu possess a certain endearing oddity which manifests itself in all aspects of her art. At only 23\, Zuzu is the definition of a millennial artist; a visibly confident front person\, songwriter\, producer\, director\, actor and comic book illustrator; starring and orchestrating all her videos\, recording a considerable amount of her music at her home studio in Liverpool and even creating a comic strip for the release. \nThe world waits with baited breath for this multi-faceted individual of otherworldly talent to come forth and deliver. \n  \n

With a sound designed to fill stadiums\, and a live performance packed with energy AutoPilot are rapidly building a name for themselves both locally and across the UK. With big support slots (Pigeon Detectives\, White Lies\, We are Scientists and Neville Staple) and notable festival appearances (Godiva\, Tramlines and Wheels & Fins Festival) under their belts\, they are no strangers to a large stage and have big plans for 2019. Their latest single “Brain Cell” was made track of the week on BBC introducing Coventry and Warwickshire and is due to be released later in the year. \n“Bass player Andy Hopkins enjoyed huge success with previous band The Enemy. On this evidence you wouldn’t bet against it happening again with new band Autopilot. New single ‘Invincible’ is an anthemic\, soaring\, catchy indie rock banger of real quality.” – Gigslutz

SUMMARY:Hey Bulldog - MCR
DESCRIPTION:Hey Bulldog plus guests Gardenback + Bleach Body + Pool Sharks \nThe Manchester three-piece are closer in spirit to stoner rock trendsetters Kyuss and Sleep\, thick\, heavy rock riffs underlaid with grooving\, driving rhythm. \nGuitarist Rob Manton is blessed with enough musical talent to actually justify his level of showmanship as he howls his way through the band’s material- the centrepiece being “No Future\, Part II“\, a hazy Krautrock odyssey utilising motorik beats courtesy of drummer Ben Howarth-Lees and hypnotic synthetic drones\, which gradually build in intensity to a great wave of release. \nSingle “Al Lupo“\, by contrast\, is back to basics with it’s Sabbath-esque riffs\, heavy with distortion and flanging\, perfect for a blistering desert freeway- a temperature that the room was earnestly trying to match at this point. \nHey Bulldog are an outfit to watch out for\, their stock is only going to rise”

SUMMARY:Littlehill - MCR
DESCRIPTION:Littlehill plus guests Olly Flavell + Steve Kelly \nLittlehill are a group from Glasgow\, Scotland.  Started a long time ago\, originated in a bedroom in a house at the top of a little hill in the outskirts of Glasgow\, 2 founding members started putting down some very rough demo’s which started a question of how can we take this further? Time passes and life gets in the way for a while then\, excitingly\,  additional members added \, various recording sessions and writing changes started a new hunger to get a release properly delivered.  It’s taken some time for this to all come together and finally get a release under our belt. \nLittlehill debut album  “Burns White” released on 31 January 2019\, Love\, distress\, the universe and a Small café – what more do you need? The kind of album that makes you hit repeat…more than once…. \nBurns White links to the references to stars we have in this little odyssey of a song collection. That’s the stars in the sky\, not the ones on your TV or mobile streaming device.  Its also important to stress that no auto-tune or vocoder devices were harmed in the making of this album. \n

SUMMARY:Tuscan Sun & Spilt Milk Society - LPL
DESCRIPTION:Tuscan Sun & Spilt Milk Society plus guests \nTUSCAN SUN\, located in the north of the United Kingdom are an Electronic / R&B Pop Band. Having just released their latest single ‘Like To Say’\, their vision for the rest of 2019 is to release more music along with a few artistic DIY side projects ‘Music videos\, merchandise\, etc..’.\n\nThe Band’s mixtape ‘I’m still searching’ which arrived last November\, proved that they aren’t just your average Rock Band. The mixtape was hosted by themselves and several of their friends who contributed to the production & Mastering of the Record. \nWith a swirling collection of R&B / E-pop infused into rock\, they once again rewrote the rules of what it means to be a band in this modern musical landscape. Considering the band’s strong musical and cultural output and their ability to transcend genre it’s hard to imagine\, where exactly will TUSCAN SUN end up? \nSpilt Milk Society “We are a 5-piece band from the Midlands making indie/rock music. With an online presence of over 80\,000 monthly listeners and almost a million total streams\, we’ve been described by the likes of Fred Perry Subculture as one of Birmingham’s brightest future bands. We’ve done live sessions for both BBC Introducing WM and BBC Introducing Shropshire as well as for Pirate Studios whilst gaining air time on Radio 6 Music\, BBC Radio 1 and Radio 2. Indie Shuffle described us as “mesmerising” and Alternative Tracks said that “with their genuinely funky vibe that’s utterly infectious\, and their winning blend of indie-pop\, guitar-rock and catchy\, danceable grooves\, Spilt Milk Society are definitely a band to listen out for in 2017” whilst our track ‘For The Last Time’ charted as high as #3 on amazingradio’s official charts. Past headline shows include sold out performances at the O2 Institute Blue Room\, the Sunflower Lounge and the Rainbow Courtyard. This year also saw us hand picked to play on the BBC Introducing stage at the Great Escape Festival 2017 by Steve Lamacq. On top of this we have supported the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club’s newest musical endeavour ‘Toothless’\, ‘Trudy and the Romance’ and ‘Ivory Wave’.

SUMMARY:The Real People - LPL
DESCRIPTION:The Real People plus guest The Sums + Krank Williams \nThe Real People\, or “The Realies” as they are known to their fans\, formed in 1987 and over the following four years were as pivotal as The La’s and The Stone Roses in reinventing rock & roll\, after the synth-led new wave music which had dominated the 80s. \nThey signed to Columbia Records in 1989\, releasing their self titled album and the singles “Open Up your Mind”\, “Window Pane”‘ and “The Truth”‘ all to critical acclaim. They sold over 100\,000 copies of the album and made significant inroads into Europe\, Japan and the US. \nThe follow up “Marshmellow Lane” led off with the top 40 single “Believer” but their label was sold to Sony and the band became an early victim of major label expansion at the expense of talent. CBS became an imprint of Sony and The Real People left. “Marshmellow Lane” sat on the shelf until some of the tracks from it were included in the compilation “The Calm Before the Storm” which celebrated Liverpool’s contribution to Britpop. \nThere can be no doubt that the Oasis sound borrowed heavily from The Real People and given the circumstances it’s obvious why one band\, fresh from the other end of the M62\, untainted by having been dropped and containing one Liam Gallagher would steal more than the Griffiths’ thunder. \nGuitarist Alan Gillibrand joined in 1995 along with drummer Gary Ford and armed with a new deal from Winchester Films/MGL Records The Real People recorded their third album\, “What’s on the Outside”. The campaign for this album began in 1996 and the album followed in the November of that year. \nThe band toured solidly for two years\, rebuilding their fan base and picking up new fans all the time. Their close friends Ocean Colour Scene gave them every single support slot they had for the best part of 18 months. \nTo support the album they released the singles “Going Nowhere EP” (a top ten indie chart hit on their own EGG label) \, “Bring You Down”\, “Every Vision of You”\, “Rolling Stone”\, “The People in the Telly” and “Rayners Lane”. The album sold well and re-established the band who began work on their fourth album. By now their songwriting was developing with classics such as “Closer” and “I Want You” confirming their incredible talent. \nThe new line up consists of Chris\, Tony\, Russ Mitchinson on keyboards and Tony Mac on drums; formerly of Rain\, 16 Tambourines\, Electrafixon. Hard luck hit them again as MGL folded and the band found themselves again without a deal. \nAt the same time\, however\, Cher decided to cover “One by One”\, one of Tony’s earliest songs. The song had been earmarked as a classic by two future industry giants\, Lucian Grange now Chairman of Universal and Rob Dickens who became Chairman of Warners. \nCher’s cover of it was a worldwide hit and has since been included on releases selling over six million copies. This one song allowed the brothers to buy a warehouse style building in Birkenhead and build their own studio. With producers Brendan Lynch (Primal Scream)\, Max Hayes (Paul Weller) and Mark Walliss (U2\, The La’s) committing their time to the next raft of songs\, the fourth album was started but finding a label proved difficult. \nThe band continued to write\, record and tour including main support slots with David Bowie\, Nelly Furtado and further dates with OCS. They also turned their talents to writing for other acts and acheived considerable success with songs covered by OCS\, BBMak\, Rooster\, Tunde\, Atomic Kitten and the classics “Losing a Friend” and “Closer” being debut singles for enormously successful Icelandic band “Nylon” – with both singles hitting the Icelandic number one spot and staying there for two and three months respectively. \nTheir successful publishing company and recording studio complex “Realistic Music” has gone from strength to strength and they also finally gained recognition for their role in developing Oasis with songwriting credits on “Rocking Chair” and an agreement that without their help Oasis would never have sounded the way they did. \nWith new Guitarist Martin Lappin and Tony McGuigan Drums the band decided to complete and release their long awaited fourth album – Think Positive which has received critical acclaim from peers and fans. Sited as the best line up of band to date. \nA new Album and tour is due this year with a back to basic sound but as always The Real People continue to move forward. \nInfluences: Think\, Bowie\, Beatles and Bolan with a touch of Pistols thrown into the mix. \nThey remain one of the truly great live bands\, as their fans will testify and we look forward to the show!
